I’m an owner of several HP laptops during the past several years, and all have been good performers. I just acquired the dv4-2173 and it is fast, has a really great keyboard, and is feature rich (I’m still in the learning phase). Note that it came with Win 7 Home Premium which now has the language package (earlier I could only get the language pack in Win 7 Ultimate). Although it is nominally a 14-inch display, it is very similar to the dv6 – you probably won’t notice the difference…. weight is a bit on the heavy side, but the DVD is removable for travel if that fits your needs.

I’m not very happy with this purchase. It has trouble waking up from ‘sleeping’. It goes into a cycle of trying to turn on, then off–over and over again, and you can only get it out by holding the power key down for a minute and restarting everything. Not convenient. I’ve been on the phone with HP for the last 4 days trying to fix it–still not fixed. Additionally–the microphone is not functioning, even with HP tech trying to get it turned on. The speakers are terrible quality, as well.
I’ve had instances of the CD drive starting to make crazy amounts of noise-clicking and clacking away when there is a data cd in the drive that i’m not accessing at all.
Also, the keyboard has taken to randomly inserting the cursor in paragraphs above where I’m actually typing. I will probably return this computer.

Pros:
1) It is sleek and stylish.
2) For the configuration, it is a good deal since Amazon has $75 gift card on this
Cons:
1) If you are used to thinkpad keyboard this is difficult to adjust
2) I did not find this fast enough even though this is supposed to be Intel I5. Start up is slow and even the IE comes up so slowly
3) I have been having trouble with wireless connection lately. It does not connect automatically connect to my home wireless. It used to do before but something is wrong now. It takes several attempts each time to connect. I wonder if others had similar issue and appreciate if you could tell me how you fixed it.
Overall experience with Amazon was great. It is just the laptop.

The HP Pavilion dv4-2173nr was a great buy! The new Core i5 processor has amazing speed, especially combined with 4gb of RAM and a 7200 rpm, 500 GB HDD. Brilliant screen colors and a beautiful black outer casing. It’s also pretty light-weight, making it easy to travel with. I would highly recommend this laptop at the great Amazon.com price.

The HP Pavilion DV4-2173nrs the best laptop iveever had, theres a bunch of people who say HP has a lot of defects but dont listen to them! Theyre either lying or they treat their computers like junk and thats why they need a new one. Its Fast, Accurate, HD, has a cool design, and a little HP logo in the back that lights up when its on. It has only one con I can think of, the battery lfe is pretty short if your a heavy duty downloader like me. But if you need more battery life just buy a High Capacity HP battery. Hope this helped
